Itinerary Bologna: medieval university town

The ideal vantage point to understand Bologna is undoubtedly from a helicopter. Only from above is it possible to make out the great number of towers spread throughout the old part of the city, that which the Bolognesi call “Bologna inside the walls”. Typical of medieval architecture, the towers were an expression of rivalry between powerful families. The highest tower was considered the best, even if it wasn’t the most stable. For this reason the lean of the Garisenda and Asinelli towers has become the symbol of the city.
Seated in the shade of these two towers, the traveller is at the centre of a series of concentric circles that make up the ancient city. From there you need only choose which itinerary to follow. The stately street of Santo Stefano, leading to the piazza of the same name, has a certain mystic and romantic atmosphere and the Seven Churches complex in piazza Santo Stefano is perhaps one of the most suggestive angles of the entire city.
The Seven Churches are a journey back in time, starting at the most recently built church and continuing to the ancient pagan temple, which forms the foundation of the entire structure. On more languid days, the tables of the piazza’s bars are a good place to sit and enjoy the Seven Churches’ spell.
Returning to the two towers, one could choose an alternative itinerary and embark on Via Zamboni, leading to the archetypal university quarter and the swarm of students and historic university buildings. Without doubt, this is Bologna’s vital heart, where the nights are full and the pubs stay open till the early hours of the morning. Around the outskirts, the modern campus of Johns Hopkins University is a symbol of Bologna’s international status.

Every one on internet searches for quality content. Its very unfortunate with most of the websites published posts that are boring and out of context articles, just to show that new material is being published. Contrary to that immoral practice, this article is a well-written article.
